    Pioneer Passes; Born In Canada, But Dies In Adopted Siskiyou
    Charles Booth Parrott died in Etna, June 19, and was buried in the Masonic Cemetery at Fort Jones Tuesday, June21, at 1:30 p.m. Services were under the direction of the Knights of Pythias and held at the Congregational church at Etna.

    Born in Canada- Parrott was born in Montreal, Canada, August 10, 1852, but came to the United States at an early age. He became a citizen of the United States, July 21, 1884. He married Miss Rose Meamber, December 22, 1885, and they lived at French creek, where Parrott had big lumber interests.

    Parrott was a mason for 43 years, first at Fort Jones and then at Etna. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythia lodge in Etna. He is survived by his wife, his son Albert, county surveyor, and one sister, Mrs. Rose McTavish, of Manitoba, Canada.

    Notes: Veteran county surveyor Albert Parrott resigns
    County supervisors this morning accepted the resignation of a veteran county official, County Surveyor Albert Parrott, effective Dec. 31, 1957. Board members ordered the drafting of a letter of commendation in recognition of Parrott's long record of service.

    The County Surveyor will terminate a total of 35 years service with his resignation, dating from 1922, when he was first elected. Taking office on Jan. 1, 1923, Parrott was elected to nine consecutive terms as Siskiyou County Surveyor.

    Services Are Held For Albert F. Parrott, 83
    YREKA - Masonic funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today in the Girdner Funeral Chapel here for Albert F. Parrott, 83, former Siskiyou County surveyor and a resident of Yreka for 60 years. He died Saturday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.

    Born in Fort Jones, Siskiyou County, Parrott was the only child of Charles Booth and Mary Rose Meamber Parrott, early settlers. He was graduated fro the Etna, Siskiyou County, High School in 1905 and from the old Vander Nielan Technical School of Engineering in Oakland in 1908. He married Myrtle Hathaway of Scott Valley, Siskiyou County, in 1918.

    Parrott served as Siskiyou County surveyor for 35 years, retiring in 1958 and was president of the California State Engineers' Association in 1943-44.

    He was active in fraternal circles, being a Past Master of Evening Star Lodge No. 186, Free and Accepted Masons of Etna, past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Past Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias and a member of the Methodist Church.

    He is survived by his widow, Myrtle; daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Ward of Pacific Grove, Monterey County, Mrs. Frances Shepherd of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Mildred Thomas of Blue Bell, Pa., and Mrs. Ann Waterman of Timonium, Md.; a son, Albert Ellis of San Francisco, and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Burial was in the Masonic Section of Yreka's Evergreen Cemetery.

    A quiet wedding was solemnizd at the Methodist parsonage on Monday, when Miss Myrtle A. Hathaway was married to Albert F. Parrott by Rev. Homer Gallaher, at noon, Miss Florence Platt and Miss Martha Kline acting as witnesses.

    Both the brid and the groom have been residents of Etna Mills the major part of their lives where they attended the local schools and have a wide circle of friends.

    Mrs. Parrott is graduate of the Chico state normal school and has been engaged in teaching. Mr. Parrott has been working at lumbering recently but is a graduate of the Van Der Naillen College of Engineering in Oakland, and will follow civil engineering. After a trip to various points to the south they will reside at Fort Jones.

    YREKA (Siskiyou Co.), March 7. The engagement of Miss Beatrice Parrott, the daughter of County Surveyor and Mrs. Albert F. Parrott, to Aviation Cadet C. Burton Ward has been announced.

    Miss Parrott is a senior at University of California at Berkeley. Ward gave up his university studies to enlist in the Army Air Corps. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Ward of Pacific Grove, Calif., and attended school there before enrolling at the University of California. Miss Parrott is a graduate of the Yreka High School.

    Seaman 1/c Frances Parrott pf the WAVES, daughter of County Surveyor and Mrs. Albert Parrott of Yreka, arrived home the last of the week for a short leave here with her family. She is stationed at Camp Elliott, San Diego, the same camp in which her brother, Albert Parrott, S 1/c R.M. is stationed with a naval unit. The two young people enlisted in May, 1941, Frances taking her oath on her twentieth birthday.

    Enroute home, Miss Parrott stopped in San Francisco for a brief visit with a sister, Miss Mildred Parrott, and again in Sacramento where she spent a short while with former school friends. Frances had completed a two-year course at Sacramento Junior College when she enlisted in the WAVES.

    Miss Parrott mentioned seeing in San Diego Mrs. Betty Knox Cavin, former Yreka girl, who is now living in the southern city and who serves at the San Diego Red Cross Blood Bank. Since the start of the war, Mrs. Calvin has been active in Red Cross work and wears the uniform of a Grey Lady.

    Frances loved needlework, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed cooking and was a loving mother and wife. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was the loving wife of Lemuel C. Sheppard of University Place, WA; mother of Gregory C. Sheppard of Lakewood, WA an Geoff L. Sheppard of University Place; and sister of Beatrice Ward of Carmel, CA.

    The bride, a graduate of Yreka schools, Monterey Junior College and one year at San Francisco State College, is the great-granddaughter of two pioneer families of Siskiyou County. Her maternal great-grandfathter, Jacob H. Deetz, came to Yreka in 1852 and later settled near Mount Shasta. Her paternal great-grandfather, John P. Meamber, came in the '49 gold rush and settled on Scott River.

    The bridegroom spent his boyhood in the state of New York and served with the U.S. Navy of Pensacola, Florida. He is an employe of the T.H. Wiltn and Company, dealers of Eastman Kodak supplies in San Francisco. The newlyweds will live in San Francisco.
